Styling

I wanted that really grungy dirty unpolished feel within my images and the styling of the image to contrast the sleek perfection within the hair and makeup. Above are some images of clothing and jewellery i would imagine to see on my model for Claudia i want a bra let thats quite stroppy and revealing, my friend has a black feather jacket i am planning to use and i want lots of jewellery on the hand and wrists and a cross pendant to show her warding of spirits i feel this is also a very gothic symbol within styling.
I also plan on creating very long exaggerated black stiletto nails adding to that gothic horror feel and to show the femme fetale nature of her character the deathly pointed nails almost warding away men.

Quentin

After my last post about development of Quentin's face charts i feel i have a lot more of a clearer idea about what sort of idea i would like to portray within the visuals of my characterisation of him now i have created further my Claudia character. As the genre within gothic horror i am aiming for is ghost and that bringing to life the dead/ paranormal sprits i feel this is a very loose concept in visuals about how a spirit should look this is something that drew me to the idea that i could almost create something that can be visualised and i feel this related to Quentin also. Claudia's visual character shows a ghostly unearthly sexualised version symbolising reference to the grudge but inspired by Paranormal Activity so almost a being thats brought to life but i wanted Quentin to represent more the demon the bad spirits with the films paranormal activity. I feel that fact he is a demon shows how Claudia is almost possessed by him although she created him in her head she doesn't have a choice to forget about him or not and he is a bad spirt always following her and creating trouble in her head.
I wanted the character to show elements of Claudia keeping that very sleek perfect look with the slick hair i experimented as shown below with the finger wave wet look inspired by a few images on my Pinterest board for Quentin and the McQueen A/W 2013 mens show. I love this effect on my model and felt it was very effective adding a interesting element into male hair i may possibly add colour to the hair using a spray in white or a pastel yellow to add that grungy vibe to the image.

I created the makeup look inspired by my very first  face chart of the demon like character (without the black contact lenses) i love the feathered effect on the brows and feel this would related to Claudia's hair coming down onto the face, although i would like to add something to break down the character experimenting and combining my pervious idea of line drawing onto the face adding a raw element / something else to make the viewer feel unsettled by the character.

After developing my hair design i began to have a lot of inspiration from ghost using 'the grudge' like look with the hair waving down onto the face to symbolise this unearthly human that i feel Claudia is i wanted this to carry this on within my makeup design. When looking at the image on the right hand side of the mood board above further used within my Hair design mood board this inspired me to find a way in incorporating this masking hair look within the design but not masking the face entirely. I began looking on Pinterest -( http://gb.pinterest.com/milliejohns/claudia/ )and found these other images i love the way the ink within the middle two images runs down from the deep black eyes it looks unearthly and gohstly but the running creates the effect of crying this human emotion that we can relate to. I love this idea that Claudia has created herself into a unearthly (ghostly) being but using this idea like symbolism for a very real human characteristic i feel creates a rawness and reality within her own situation of being alone and stuck in her house.
Below i have created a face chart of how i imagine it all to look. I have creates a simple allabasque base with a deep set contour. I wanted the deep purple, plum red ombre glossy lip colour to create a high fashion sexuality to the image something the viewer can relate to yet the string from the underneath lash line is very unsettling and eerie mirroring whats happening within the hair being brought down onto the face, i further added a orange red underneath the eye to create a variation in colour and a tiered look similarly to the look created for the Giles A/W 2013 catwalks (as discussed before).

Paranormal inspiration for Claudia Development

Having decided that my gothic horror inspirartion would come from Paranormal activity a ghost film I previously researched. I began to gain lots of ideas from previous research and began being inspired by this genre. When flicking through my Instagram page i can across an image posted by Charlotte Tilbury on 101 how to straighten hair the image below shows the hair sitting upright and curved around a pillow while the iron is being used to straighten it out.

This instantly inspired me to a hair design i could create for Claudia i thought about levitating and this reminded me of levitation of the hair and how creating this on my Claudia character as though she has an ora of Paranormal happening about her. This would be the basis for my inspiration i felt i need some hair inspiration to help me create a structure so there hair wasn't just upright by i could combine techniques used in class how i could use this as my idea by still create a fashion style thats sleek perfect and smooth while creating this sense of levitation and the femme fetale female. I began researching on Pinterest for my inspiration- http://www.pinterest.com/milliejohns/claudia/

This first mood board from images of my Pinterest account shows my research of ghostly hair many elements of this are long sleek hair covering the face and masking the features, this reminded me of the Ringu (the grudge) films main character of the girl to me one of the classic horror films that began using the idea of the awaking of the dead and bringing our imaginations into what they would look like. I love the right hand side far top image the ghost like element of the hair creates such a strong effect although i need to think about covering of the face as i need to show my makeup but taking elements from this mood board of how you can use hair to create an eerie unsettling atmosphere.

The next mood board shows my development of ideas from my first into more high fashion and relatable hair to my target audience while using my inspiration from ghostly levitation and abnormalities in hair to create my Paranormal gothic horror characterisation of Claudia. I love the elements of the hair being brought onto the face relating to the grudge character but using techniques such as the wet look pin curls onto the face takes the look into more of a fashion editorial look. I love the technique used on the white hair in the centre top right it shows how you could create defined waves into the hair while potentially keeping that perfect smooth element. (This technique looks like they have straighten hair sprayed hair something i could easterly recreate) This hair design on the right second row shows how you can create a structure while still portraying an element of unearthly levitating hair.

I drew a very rough hair plan of my initial ideas i would create very smooth soft waves that look very sleek and shiny using tongs and setting the curls in pins till cool, after brushing the curls out this will create my soft waves, i will further experiment technique to create the idea of levitating by either using hair spray and straighteners or using the idea of chicken wire to secure onto the head and cover with the soft waves by threading them through and masking the wire. the curls onto the face i want to create a wet look snaking down onto the face. i initially just created the look without the bottom section as shown on the left all the hair levitating up wards but i wanted to have the elements of the long eerie hair down the side of the face so i added this as the top section just levitating upwards. I need to experiment further on hair with this look to work out all the techniques and elements i will have to use to achieve an unrealistic paranormal feel to the hair.
