Estella

When i initial began thinking of estella i immediately imagined her to be young in her teens the main characterisation that i wanted to express in my interpritation of her was her venerability within the hard outer front she wants to portray to how she really feels about her upbringing i feel she is very psychologicaly confused and i wanted to show this through my design.
Furthermore To me she tries to act very mature but i want to portray the fact that she's still young and innocent.
I initially began thinking about the hair creation as i feel i can be more experimental within the hair than the makeup as i am portraying the young estella i wanted to keep her face fresh and natural.

I began thinking about the hair styles at the time and while reserching my inital visual imagery on Pinterest: http://gb.pinterest.com/milliejohns/estella/
I became stuck on the imagery of rags a technique they used to curl there hair in the Victorians and the effect and symbolic effect rags/bows have to me this represents the inoccent vulnerability instant imagery in my head of little girls with bows in there hair this represent estella's softer side.

When looking at how i could portray her sense of wanting to grow up and be mature i though of structure to me little girls are often seen with loose flowing soft shiny hair, estella could create these elaborate up do's to create a sense of respect and higher authority in her adult run world within satis house and i feel as a character this is often seen when she is around Pip. Below is an image i found while doing some initial research although i image was not victorian i thought this was the perfect example within hair and makeup of a young pretty girl acting mature.

While talking to seema in my lesson i began to visualise how i would pull together and create all the elements that i wanted to incorporate within the hair design adding the below elements to a victorian hair style/structure;

Structure; Large, detailed, of the face and neck?- acting mature and better than everyone else to hid what she really feels.
Texture; intricate, depth, detailed and interwinding- represent her psychological confusion within Miss Havisham's view on men and how she has been brought up.
Accessories; Bows/rags- young & innocence

Seema's feedback form:

Areas of achievement
Miss Haversham, a bold attempt and successfully executed
Issues to Consider
1.     Intricate, innocent inside, bold
2.     Tight intertwined detail, bows and rags, structured hair
3.    Find a Victorian hairstyle that you feel fits ‘bold structured’ (pinterest)
4.     Add no.2 to no.3
Any other comments
Remember to keep it Victorian
Apply bows to create structure/ detail
