The Paranormal Research

I wanted to explore and reasearch the idea of demonic possession as i feel that it will give me a better understanding of how i create my characterisation of Claudia to hold elements of this idea that Quentin is the demon possessing her. The Film 'Paranormal Activity' shows this idea the female character is being possessed a taken by this spirit in her home. Clips within the film show bed sheets flying off the bed the female character being dragged by her feet out of her bed and even at some points herself becoming and being this demon smiling at the camera, sleep walking and even talking like her possesser.

I found this article about people that have been possessed in the past when reeding it i actually began to become frightened myself i feel that its something thats very creepy and as discussed before the fear of the unknown. The quote below holds some visual references i could use when thinking about how i could create this idea of possession within the design for Claudia.

'The children's eyes bulged, wore evil smiles and deepened when they were taken over by the demons, they said.'

The images above i found from - The Twist, (2012). Kate Moss's Take On Demon Possession. [online] Available at: http://thetwistgossip.com/2012/02/14/kate-mosss-take-on-demon-possession/ [Accessed 2014].
Kate Moss taking on the idea of the demon possession. I love the way this editorial shows how you can take a very scary horror idea and turn it into more of a sexualised fashion image. I love the image far left i feel the white and cross contrasts the demon like makeup the contouring creates very prominent cheek bones almost unrealistic and like her face is morphing this along with the eyes create a very unsettling feel but the overall aspect within the image shows glamour and beauty. Similarly with the right hand side image the makeup is kept very simple but this red and green glow over the face uses symbolic colours such a red relating to the devil to show the idea of the demon possession contrasting with the nun headers relating to the church and purity.
I love how within all of these images they have contrasted innocents such as the colour white or a nun's head dress with demonic elements to emphasise the possession such as the colour red or evil unrealistic eyes.

Below i have further collected other images of makeup looks from Autumn  winter 2012 fashion week shows   were the theme across many of the designers was gothic horror inspired using dark lips, deep set eyes and white skin to create eerie yet fashionable looks. I wanted to explore how i could actually take the idea of gothic horror a very gory genre and take it into high fashion with out losing those elements that make it gothic horror such as the classic black eyes or blood dripping lips.

This image Above was taken from the Louise Vuitton catwalk  the key words for this look were eerie and grungy the look design by Pat McGrath. I love the way they have taken street style of the grunge goth and turned it into something very fashionable minimising the black eye and creating that delicate smudge with the rest of the face being very simple.

The this look was for the catwalk of Giles, make-up artist Lucia Pieroni wanted models to look "a little ill - but beautiful", with a bruise-like hue used on lips and eyes. I love this look and feel the simplicity of the design creates that beautiful look, having learnt techniques in class how to make someone look ill i can see how in this image they have used slightly lighter prettier colours such as around the eyes to create the same effect yet this is was make it beautiful and something you would see on the catwalk.

The look above was seen on the McQueen catwalk a designer know of his love of gothic elements the look was created by Diane Kendal a MAC artist. I love the deep set eyes creating that classic gothic horror look from the classic films by adding the white lashes and bleached eye brows creates a very fashionable almost pretty feel. I think the use of colour is important rather than using a grey blue cold purple they have used a orange bronzed plum colour adding warmth and sex appeal.

I would love to achieve this within my final look to create something that can be related to a horror theme but in a very sexualised and glamours way as i feel this would work more for the high fashion music video context that it will be shown in rather than adding lots of pros ethics and gore. Furthermore this styling will relate to the target audience young girls will want to look and appeal more to these fashion image styling rather than the classic horror film styling.
